British actor Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in the MCU, is doubtful about his character’s return in the upcoming Marvel movie Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor and Loki

Since his first appearance in the MCU as the prince of Asgard and Thor’s brother in 2011, fans have already witnessed Loki die (thrice). Fortunately, he keeps coming back! The Loki series, which aired on Disney Plus last year, added a fresh element to the multifaceted character while narrating Odinson’s most recent tales.

While there have been rumors that the “God of Mischief” will return in Thor: Love and Thunder, Tom Hiddleston has stated in an interview with Total Film that he is unsure about his return in the film.

He even jokes that he is not “doing an Andrew Garfield, referring to the Tick Tick Boom actor’s infamous stunt of persistent bluffing about his role in last year’s Spiderman: No Way Home.

When asked about his involvement in the Thor: Love and Thunder movie, Hiddleston said, “I’m living in a question mark.” He further admits that he thought he could predict these things, but now the Kong actor has no clue. “And I’m not even doing Andrew Garfield! I just don’t know, “he jokes.

Andrew Garfield As Spiderman

Whether or not Hiddleston is aware of his return in the movie, he confesses that portraying Loki still challenges and excites him even after a decade. He also expresses that playing the God of Mischief is “a source of eternal surprise and delight, the whole journey.”

He hints at the return of Loki in season 2 and his future in the series, saying, “At the end of season 1, the story isn’t over.” Hiddleston believes that Loki’s character is more “unstable, passionate, and chaotic as he’s ever been,” and perhaps the second season will give him a purpose.

If Loki doesn’t return in the latest installment, it will be the first movie in the Thor franchise that doesn’t feature the adoptive brother. However, the film will feature the return of Jane Foster, depicted by Natalie Portman, as the Mighty Thor, alongside Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

Both Thor and Mighty Thor are set to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie to battle Gorr the God Butcher, portrayed by Christian Bale. While this will be the second Taika Waititi-directed movie after Ragnarok, it marks the first collaboration of the Dark Knight’s actor with Marvel.

Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8.
